How to Specify TM Selections for a Language Pair

This topic describes how to select translation memories at an individual language pair level that are used by default when you create a new project or open a file for translation. Typically, you would select your translation memories at the All Language Pairs level.

This means that translation memories that are selected, apply to all the language pairs they contain. You only need to specify them at an individual language pair level as an exception. You may want to do this if you want if you want to have different translation memory selections, a different translation memory order or different lookup, update and concordance settings for an individual language pair.

For example, suppose you add a multilingual translation memory at the All Language Pairs level that contains English to German and English to French language pairs. However, you do not want to use this translation memory for English to French and instead want to select another translation memory. To do that, select the translation memory that you want to use at the individual language pair settings instead of the All Language Pairs level.

To specify translation memory selections for an individual language pair:
1.     Display the dialog box where you want to add the translation memory:
2.             Select Language Pairs from the navigation tree. The Language Pairs settings are displayed on the right. Any language pairs for which default translation memory selections have been added, are displayed in the Language Pairs box.
3.             If the language pair for which you want to specify settings does not exist, click Add. Select the source and target language that you want to add from the Add Language Pair dialog box.
4.             In the navigation tree, expand the language pair you just added (click the plus sign preceding the language pair) and the Translation Memory and Automated Translation branch is displayed.
5.             Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation from the navigation tree. The Translation Memory and Automated Translation page is displayed on the right.
6.             Select the Use different translation providers for this language pair check box.
NOTE
This check box does not enable or disable any of the settings on the Search, Penalties, Filters, Update or Language Resources pages below.
7.             A prompt is displayed asking if you want to make a copy of the translation memories and automated translation servers from All Language Pairs.
·         If you want to still use the same translation memories you specified in All Language Pairs but change the order or select different lookup, update and concordance search settings, click Yes to copy the translation memories. Go to step 9.
·         If you want to use different translation memories to the ones specified in All Language Pairs, click No. Go to step 8.
8.             Select your translation memories:
·         If you want to add an existing translation memory, click Add and select File-based Translation Memory or Server-based Translation Memory the from the drop-down list.
·         If you want to create a new translation memory, click Create and select New File-based Translation Memory or New Server-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list.
9.             Select or clear the check boxes in the Lookup, Penalty, Concordance and Update columns.
10.          Use the Up and Down arrows to change the order of the translation memories.
11.          Click OK to close the dialog box.
