How to Add a Termbase

You can use SDL Trados Studio to work with termbases created in SDL MultiTerm. See the MultiTerm online Help for information about Creating a Termbase.

Add a Termbase
Select the MultiTerm termbases that you want to add to the Termbases page. Before you display this page you need to display the dialog box where you want to add the termbase.

1.     Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree. Any termbases that are currently open are listed here.
2.     Click Add. The Select Termbases dialog box is displayed.
3.     To select a termbase, do one of the following:
·         If you want to use a termbase stored locally in a file, click Browse and select a local termbase.
·         If you want to use a remote termbase stored on a server, click Log in to connect to the MultiTerm Server. The list of termbases on the server is displayed in the Select Termbases dialog box. Select the check box next to the termbase name that you want add to the project.
4.             Click OK to close the Select Termbases dialog box and to add the termbases to the project.
5.             Continue selecting termbases until the list is complete. Any termbases you have added appear in the Termbases box and the Enabled option is selected for the termbase. When this option is selected, the termbase is automatically searched during translation when a segment becomes the active segment. For more information, see Terminology Recognition.
6.             Make sure the appropriate language for each termbase is set in the Languages pane for each project language. Each language must be mapped to a language in the termbase.
NOTE
If there is more than one language that is close match to the project language—for example, if there is a main language and one or more sublanguages such as French (France), French (Canada) and French (Belgium)—the closest matching language will appear in a drop-down list, where you can change the selection as needed.
If there is no matching language available for a project language, the Termbase Language columns will be blank and you will not be able to use active terminology recognition for that language in your project.
7.       Click OK to save your changes and close this dialog box.
Filter your Termbase Results
Filters restrict the results that SDL MultiTerm displays when you search a termbase during translation. The filter must exist already in order to apply it. Filters can only be created in SDL MultiTerm.
For example, you can use a filter when searching a termbase to show only those entries that were created or modified after a certain date.
1.     Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree.
2.     From the Filter column, select to apply any existing filters to the selected termbase.
3.     Click OK to save your changes and close this dialog box.
Specify which Termbase it Updated with New Terms
The default termbase determines the languages that are used. New termbase entries added during translation in the Editor view are added to the default termbase.
1.     Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree.
2.     To set a termbase as the default, select the termbase and click the Set Default button. The termbase is set as the default termbase and is moved to the top of the list of termbases.
3.     Click OK to save your changes and close this dialog box.
Specify the Order of Termbase Suggestions
Termbases on this page are ordered by priority (highest priority being the first termbase in the list). The termbase priority is used to determine the order that termbase suggestions are made. You may want to change this to give priority to suggestions from some termbases that may have the most relevant terms or quality terms.
1.     Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree.
2.     Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the priorities of the termbases.
3.     Click OK to save your changes and close this dialog box.

Termbases can also be used as a source for AutoSuggest editing. To use a termbase as an AutoSuggest source, you need to select the Termbases option to enable AutoSuggest.
