About Selecting Translation Resources

You can select the following translation resources for use during translation: translation memories, termbases, AutoSuggest dictionaries and automated translation providers.

About
The first time you create a translation for a language pair by opening a document, the translation resources you select become the default resources for the language pair. You can also specify default translation resources using the Language Pairs options in the Options dialog box.
You can select translation resources when you use the New Project wizard to create a new project and if you use the Translate Single Document command on the File menu to create a translation. You can change your selected resources in the Project Settings dialog box.
Language Pair Settings
A language pair is used to store settings relating to translation from a specific source language into a specific target language. Resources and options are typically configured for use across all language pairs to which they apply. Multilingual resources, such as termbases and server-based translation memories, may apply to more than one language pair. Bilingual resources, such as file-based translation memories, only apply to a specific language pair.
Individual exceptions to settings defined across all language pairs can be defined at an individual language pair level. You may want to specify translation memory selections at the individual language pair level if you want to:
·         Use different translation memories for a particular language pair.
·         Use a different order of the translation memories in the cascade for a particular language pair.
·         Enable lookups, updates or concordance searching differently in that translation memory for a particular language pair.
For example, suppose you add a multilingual translation memory at the All Language Pairs level that contains English to German and English to French language pairs. However, you do not want to use this translation memory for English to French and instead want to select another translation memory. To do that, select the translation memory that you want to use at the individual language pair settings instead of the All Language Pairs level.

Description
Specify Settings when you first start working in Studio
Select File > Options to display the Options dialog box.
The first time that you open a document using the Translate Single Document command for a language pair, if default translation resource selections for the language pair do not currently exist, the resources you select for the new translation will automatically become the default translation resources for the language pair. These selections are added to the Options dialog box where you can view or change them at any time.
Alternatively, you can display the Options dialog box and use the Language Pairs settings to create default translation resource selections. These are used when you open a document or create a project.
Change Selections when Translating a Document

Select Project Settings on the Home tab to display the Project Settings dialog box.
If the default translation resource selections are not correct for the active document you are currently translating in the Editor, you can change them. You can select new translation resources and you can de-select default translation resources.
Document specific translation resource selections are made in the Project Settings dialog box.
Change Selections for a Project
Select Project Settings on the Home tab to display the Project Settings dialog box.
The Project Settings dialog box displays translation resource information for all files in the project and if you have a document open in the Editor view, it displays translation resource information for the active document. It lists the translation resources that will be applied to the project files and active document. You can also see for some resources which ones will be used for lookups and searches and whether filters and penalties should be applied to lookup results. You can remove translation resources from the list and select new ones. You can also change any of the settings associated with each translation resource.
The selections you make in the Project Settings dialog box are project specific and are applied to all documents in the project every time you open the documents.
NOTE
If you started a translation using the Translate Single Document command, a project is automatically created.
Change Selections for a Project Template
1.     Select File > Setup > Project Templates.
2.     Select the template for which you want to add a resource and click Edit. The Project Template Settings dialog box is displayed.

The Project Template Settings dialog box displays translation resource information for a template. The template can then be used when you create a new project. The Default template is automatically updated with any selections you make in the Options dialog box. However, you may want to create additional project templates if you have several customers that require different settings.
