About Translating and Reviewing Documents

Documents are translated and reviewed in the Editor window in the Editor view. You can have several documents open at the same time but only the active document can be edited or saved. To edit a target language segment, simply click inside the segment and start typing.

There are several different ways that you can open a document in the Editor window. You can open a document for translation, review or sign-off. The way the editor is configured is determined by the way in which you open the document. The configuration affects the layout of the windows in SDL Trados Studio. The layout is designed to assist you in the different tasks you might perform when translating or reviewing.

The options available on the Home tab and Review tab also change depending on whether the document is opened for translation or review. For example, if you are translating a document, you can change a segment status to Translated to indicate that the translation is complete. If you are reviewing a document, you can change a segment status to Translation Approved to indicate that the translation is approved.

The following methods can be used to open a document:

Open Method	Description
Open for Translation	Use this command to open a document that you want to translate from the active project in Studio: ·          The Translation Results window is automatically displayed at the top of the application with the first match found in the document. ·         The options available on the Home tab and Review tab change so that you can select Confirm (Translated) to indicate that the translation is complete. NOTE If you are doing a single-file translation and are not working with a project, you can also use the Translate Single Document command by going to File > Open to open any document for translation. If the document is not associated with a project then Studio automatically creates a project.
Open for Review	Use this command to open a document that you want to review from the active project in Studio: ·         The Comments window is automatically displayed at the bottom of the application in order to allow you to enter review comments for the translations. ·         The options available on the Home tab and Review tab change so that you can select Translation Approved or Translation Rejected.
Open for Sign-off	Use this command to open a document that you want to sign-off in the active project in Studio: ·         The Comments window is automatically displayed at the bottom of the application in order to allow you to enter review comments for the translations. ·         The options available on the Home tab and Review tab change so that you can select Signed Off or Sign-off Rejected. NOTE Opening a file for sign-off is an additional review that you can perform after a file has been opened for review.
