Accessing SDL Language Cloud Resources

Connect to SDL Language Cloud to access the machine translation (MT) engines that you subscribed to from your SDL Language Cloud account. The Language Cloud MT engines are trained using domain-specific content and your custom terminology dictionaries and can generate translation results that require less post-editing.

Connecting to SDL Language Cloud
To access your Language Cloud resources from SDL Trados Studio:
1.     Open your project and click Home tab > Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
2.     On the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page, click Add and select SDL Language Cloud from the drop-down menu.
3.     If you are not already logged into your Language Cloud account from Studio:
·         enter your SDL My Account credentials if you hold a valid Studio license.
·         create a Language Cloud account and log in with these credentials if you are using a Studio trial.
·         enter your API key if you received one from your project manager or other source.
4.     On the Select Engines page, enable the engines that you want to use for each language pair available for your project. If your Language Cloud subscription includes specialized engines for the available language pairs, click on Default and switch from the general engine to one of the industry-specific engines in the drop-down menu.
NOTE
Studio only displays the engines that match the language pairs of your active project. To add new engines and use these with the language pairs of your current project, click the Manage Engines link at the bottom of the page. After managing your engines, you may need to restart Studio to refresh the settings.
5.     Click Next to connect to your selected engines and open the Select Dictionaries page.
6.     If your Language Cloud subscription plan includes terminology dictionaries, enable the dictionaries that you want to apply to your selected MT engines.
7.     Click Finish to close the Language Cloud Machine Translation Settings wizard and connect to the selected engines and dictionaries.

Translating using Language Cloud resources
To start translating using the Language Cloud resources that you connected to, open your project files in the Editor view and click inside a target segment. Studio automatically inserts the translation generated from the Language Cloud engine corresponding to the language pairs of your file. The engine also considers any available dictionaries available on your Language Cloud account and automatically inserts matching term translations into the translation suggestion.
Recognizing Language Cloud translations
You can recognize segments translated with a Language Cloud engine by the automated translation icon in the Status column. The automated translations that you edit show up as draft translations.
Studio tags each translation unit created with the help of a Language Cloud engine with the SDL Language Cloud system field. This gives reviewers more information about the resources used for translating each segment.
Prioritizing Translation Providers
If you are using multiple translation providers for translating a file, Studio lists the generated results starting with the first translation memory or MT provider available on the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page. If you are using a combination of MT providers and translation memories, Studio resorts to the MT engines only if your selected translation memories do not generate any results. This saves costs on your MT subscriptions.
To always receive MT results in addition to translation memory matches, enable the Look up segments in MT even if a TM match has been found option under Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Search. In general, keep MT engines at the bottom of your list of translation providers for best and fastest look-up strategy. This ensures that TM matches are generally looked up first and MT engines are used only when needed, depending on your other settings.

NOTE
Using SDL Language Cloud may violate your non-disclosure agreement with your translation customer. Check with your customer before connecting to this automated translation provider.
The *.sdlxliff bilingual file records if you have used a Language Cloud engine during translation.
