SDL Trados Studio
is a project-based translation management system. All files are
translated and managed as part of a project, which may contain a single
file or many files for translation into one language or several
languages. It may also contain reference material, translation memories
(TMs), termbases, AutoSuggest dictionaries and instructions for
translators.
Once a project has been created,
Project Managers can manage all aspects of project effort and monitor
project progress using the project management tools in
SDL Trados Studio.
Project workflows
SDL Trados Studio enables Project Managers to integrate projects and their associated files into several workflows:
- Project Package workflows - As Project Manager, you can distribute work to different team members via project packages. When team members finish the work, they send the Project Manager return packages.
- Project Package workflows via SDL WorldServer - As Project Manager, you can receive project packages from SDL WorldServer, distribute them to your team members for translation, and then return the work to SDL WordlServer.
- Project workflows via SDL Trados GroupShare - As Project Manager, you can share your projects online (during project creation or when the project is already created), distribute the work to team members, and oversee project completion. Team members can connect to SDL Trados GroupShare to access the work which needs to be completed.
- Project workflows for a Regulated Industry - As Project Manager, you can send files which are translated in SDL Trados Studio in their native format or in bilingual mode for translation or review to team members who do not have SDL Trados Studio.
Project management tools
SDL Trados Studio's
project management tools automate project creation, centralize project
data management and track projects. These are its key features:
- Automated project creation
- Pre-translation of project files by applying translation memories
- Production of translation analysis figures during project creation
- Project managers can track project progress at project, language and file level
- Assign, distribute and receive work through the use of packages in an offline workflow
- Monitor project progress in 'real time' at project, file and language level for server projects
Project management tools are located in the
Projects view,
Files view and
Reports view.
- Project overview
Projects consist of the files which need to be translated or reviewed, the resources used during the translation process and the settings which determine how the project content is handled. - Creating projects
Create new translations projects using the New Project wizard in SDL Trados Studio. You can also skip creating a full-fledged project and start working on a single-file with the Translate Single Document workflow. - Managing projects
Project management entails all the operations that can be performed on projects. - Managing reports
The available reports display the data collected from the batch tasks that were run on the project files. Some batch tasks are run upon project creation, while others can be run at any time. - Managing translation memories (TMs)
Translation memories (TMs) can be managed and maintained depending on your access level, in the Translation Memories view.
