This topic describes how to create a new translation using the Translate
Single Document command. Starting a translation using this method bypasses
the selections you have to make when you create a project using the New
Project wizard.
When you use the Translate Single Document command, you can
create and save an *.sdlxliff file which contains source language segments only. From this, you can
create further *.sdlxliff files for different target languages.

When you create a translation using this method, a project is
automatically created for you and the *.sdlxliff file is added to it. The project is given the same
name as the document you opened. Settings for your active document can then be specified
in the Project Settings dialog box.

The options that you define in the Translate Single Document dialog
box when you first open a document for that language pair, become the default
options for this language pair. The settings are displayed in the Options dialog box and are
used if you create a project.

To start a new translation using the Translate Single Document command:
1.
Select File > Open > Translate Single
Document from the Ribbon. The Open Document dialog box is displayed.

Select the document to be translated and click Open. The Open Document dialog box is
displayed.

If the Select Project File dialog box is displayed, an *.sdlxliff file has already been
created for this document. To create a new translation, select Create New
Project File and click OK. The Open Document dialog box is displayed.
3. Check the value in the Source
Language box. If the source language is not correct, select the correct
language from the drop-down list.

In the Target Language box, select the required target
language from the drop-down list.

If you want to create an *.sdlxliff file that has no target language, you can leave this box
blank.
5. If you want to use a
translation memory during translation, select the type of translation memory to
use in the Translation Memory and Automated Translation section:

Click Add and select File-based
Translation Memory from the drop-down list. Select a translation memory
from the Open Translation Memory dialog box.

you want to use a translation memory stored on
a server,

Click Add and select Server-based
Translation Memory from the drop-down list. Select a translation memory
from the Select
Server-based Translation Memory dialog box.

you want to create a new file-based
translation memory,
|
Click Create and select New
File-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list. Create a
translation memory in the New Translation Memory wizard.

you want to create a new server-based
translation memory,
|
Click Create and select New
Server-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list. Create a new
translation memory in the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard.

you want to use a SDL WorldServer
|
Click Add and select SDL WorldServer
from the drop-down list. Select a translation memory or translation memory
group from the Select WorldServer Translation Provider dialog box.

If you want to use automated translation during translation, click Add and select one of the
following from the drop-down list:

Select SDL BeGlobal Enterprise to connect to an SDL
BeGlobal automated translation server. Use the SW Enterprise Translation
Server option if your company has purchased an installation of Language
Weaver Enterprise Translation Server and installed it on a server. Use the BeGlobal
Online option if you or your company has purchased the BeGlobal hosted
services (Software as a Service). This requires a user and API key for
authentication.

SDL Language Cloud to connect to the machine translation engines that you subscribed
to from your SDL Language Cloud account. The SDL Language Cloud MT engines are
trained using domain-specific content to generate translation results that
typically require less post-editing.

Select SDL Automated Translation to connect to the free SDL
community automated translation server or an automated translation server of
your own.
·
Select Google Translate to connect to the Google Translate
automated translation server. This is now a paid for service that requires an
API key. The API key you enter here will update all other projects that use
Google Translate.
NOTE

Using Google Translate, SDL Language Cloud or
an SDL Automated Translation Server may violate your non-disclosure agreement
with your translation customer. Check with your customer before connecting to
these translation providers. The *.sdlxliff bilingual file records if
you have used one of these providers during translation.

If you want to specify additional settings for translation, click
the Advanced button to display the Project Template Settings
dialog box. Make the required changes and click OK to close the dialog
box and save your settings.

Click OK. The translatable content of the source language
document is identified, segmented and placed in an *.sdlxliff file. The file is opened
in the Editor window for translating.
A project is automatically created for you. Use the Project
Settings dialog box to change the translation memories that you have
selected, to add termbases and specify other settings.

You must save the *.sdlxliff file if you want to keep it. If you
close the application without saving the *.sdlxliff file, it will not
be available the next time you open SDL Trados Studio.
·
The target language of the document can only be changed if the
document has not been saved with any target language content.
·
Document languages are chosen in the Active Document Settings dialog box.
